The Brief

Set on a sloping, bush-clad site in Pāuatahanui, within the wider Wellington region and close to the Kāpiti Coast, the existing Lockwood home no longer suited the needs of a growing family. NZ Proud was engaged to deliver a high-quality home renovation, extension, and alteration that would modernise the layout, improve functionality, and create additional living space, while retaining the character of the original home.

The brief focused on enhancing indoor–outdoor flow, improving the entry experience, and better connecting the home to its surrounding landscape, all while ensuring the design responded to the unique site conditions and views.

How we elevated the home

This Wellington home extension introduced new living zones, additional bedrooms, and a refined, contemporary material palette that significantly enhances both the appearance and performance of the home. The alteration involved reconfiguring key areas of the existing layout to improve flow, usability, and connection between spaces.

By retaining elements of the original Lockwood structure, the project balances modern design with the warmth and character of the existing home, a common consideration in renovation projects across Wellington and Kāpiti.

Large-format glazing, carefully positioned outdoor areas, and considered orientation maximise natural light and solar gain, while framing views across the inlet and surrounding bush. The improved indoor–outdoor connection allows the home to feel more open, spacious, and responsive to its environment.

The result is a thoughtfully delivered home alteration and extension that reflects NZ Proud’s expertise in large-scale renovations across Wellington, Porirua, the Hutt Valley, and the Kāpiti Coast, creating a home that is both highly functional and built to last.
