The Hillside View Extension

The Brief

Located on a tightly positioned hillside site, this existing home no longer met the needs of the family living there. The kitchen and living spaces felt enclosed and disconnected from the outdoor areas, while the rear of the home lacked the space and flow needed for modern family life.

The brief was to reconfigure and extend the home to create a larger open-plan living area, improve indoor–outdoor flow, and take advantage of the elevated outlook across the surrounding hills and neighbourhood.

How we elevated the home

The renovation introduced a carefully designed extension that significantly expanded the kitchen and living areas, creating a bright and spacious central hub for everyday living and entertaining. A contemporary kitchen now anchors the open-plan space, with a large island providing both functionality and a natural gathering point for family and guests.

Large sliding doors and expansive glazing connect the interior to a newly designed outdoor deck, allowing the living spaces to flow seamlessly outside. The upgraded outdoor area provides multiple zones for dining, relaxing and entertaining while making the most of the home’s elevated position.

Externally, the alterations modernised the rear of the home while still respecting the character of the original structure. The addition of an upper-level balcony and covered outdoor area further enhances the connection between the home and its surroundings, creating a comfortable and functional space designed for modern family living.
