The Modern Farmhouse Retreat

The Brief

Located in Ōhau, this new build project was designed to reflect the character of its rural surroundings while providing a comfortable, modern home for family living. The brief called for a design that balanced simplicity, durability and warmth while creating strong connections between indoor spaces and the surrounding landscape.

How we elevated the home

The result is a clean and modern rural home that blends durable metal cladding with natural timber to create a striking yet understated exterior. The material palette was carefully selected to complement the surrounding environment while providing long-lasting performance in a rural setting.

Large openings and sliding doors connect the living spaces to the outdoor deck, creating easy indoor–outdoor flow and maximising natural light throughout the home. Inside, the design embraces a simple, functional layout with warm finishes and thoughtful detailing that balance modern design with everyday comfort.

The finished home captures the essence of rural living — a modern interpretation of the traditional farm house that combines practicality, durability and timeless design.
